I'm a big fan of whiteboards. Really, they are all around awesome. But I'm not a fan of crappy whiteboards. If you've got to really work to get off the dry erase marker, that kindof defeats the purpose alltogether of having such a thing. Also, magnetic whiteboards are the way to go. Not only are magnets cool, and you can stick stuff to a magnetic whiteboard, but you can also stick the pens right to the board. No stupid shelf, or clips, involved. So sometimes, I'm a little bit picky.
Like yesterday, Pete, Brandon, and I were in need of a whiteboard. First Meijer - their selection isn't awesome. I actually ran across one there a few weeks ago that was magnetic, and reasonably sized, but it's gone now. They produce nothing for us. So we went to OfficeMax. Seems reasonable. They have a lot of whiteboards. One is almost the size of me, but isn't magnetic (the magnetic version of that is 100+ bucks, which is ridiculous). They also have some straight glass boards, which are way awesome, but probably require more hanging prowess than I have. Also the "affordable" one has some pink flowers on it, which is not cool.
After a lot of debate, I picked out what seemed to be a Dynex-like house brand that was on sale. Brought it home, turns out it's got scratches on it AND the surface is misery. Obviously the whiteboard surface is peeling away from it's backing, so it's really uneven and bumpy. This will not stand.
Today I go back with Molly, and the guy working there remembered me, which is a little scary, although given how busy that place is, unsurprising. I exchanged the whiteboard for another board that Pete was pulling for yesterday. But unfortunately I didn't look hard enough, this one has some giant dents in the middle, and it looks like the whole thing was bent at one point. Ugh. More misery.
This really reminds me of office chair shopping last spring. I think I did three exchanges before finding an office chair that I really liked. Except this is a white board, and shouldn't be nearly that hard. Seriously people.

Funny story...I stopped by Meijer in Grand Ledge on my way home and checked out their white board selection. Turns out the Grand Ledge Meijer has a WIDE range of white boards that would suit your needs. Just saying... (+1 for GL Meijer)
I'm with you on the white boards. They are awesome, and it is also hard to find a decent one. It took Kay and I many attempts to find a decent one.
